I recently took part of a wine tasting at Walters’ with some blog friends of IloveStyle.be . A nice opportunity to try new flavors and to get a good look at a professional rater named Jean-Paul Perez. Mister Perez was invited as the special guest – a wine connoisseur, a food expert, the founder of 90pluswines.com and known as juror in the Belgian emission of Masterchef.
J.P. Perez shared his knowledge and insights of the behold wine world. Personally, I enjoyed some of his wise comments which made me feel like a person who was allowed to share an opinion about wine. Cause honestly, naive as I am, I thought only wine experts may express their feelings (ahum ratings).
It’s great to be part of a wine tasting event if you’re a layman. The things acquired are a love for wine, a smelling nose, outstanding taste buds and if possible a good mood. Everything else comes natural.
To like, love, distaste or hate a particular wine is a personal matter. A professional guides you through the background and source information. They offer you assigned wine scores by gathering information about the composition (texture, body, tannin, alcohol and serving temperature) of a wine throughout years of taste experience.
90pluswines.com for example is a platform of about 1.6 million wine scores provided by professional raters. It displays a list of wines carefully chosen for their balance between quality and price. It shows us the places where to buy and to drink a top wine.
Please use wine guides, but at the end…only your senses truly matters. Your nose and mouth will do, to jump to a conclusion. Your wallet will tell if you can afford the bottle of wine. But here is some good news for those who are strapped for cash.
The introduction of the Winefit in restaurants, makes it possible to enjoy the most exclusive wines. You pay a wine by glass. Which means that an outstanding wine becomes affordable. Instead of ordering the usual carafe of house wine, you’re able to taste a suitable, quality wine with each dish. The Winefit allows a wine lover to discover new flavors, a matching wine.
Awesome. And may ‘I’ finally introduce you a surprising young Chilean white wine : Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc – Maipo Valley – Terramater. It has a clean, fresh taste with citrus flavors, ideal as an aperitif. Read all about it on 90pluswines.com and go taste it at Walters’.
Remember – your taste is your wine – your wine is your taste. So, exquisite – if you say so.
Ps 1. A wine expert knows how to spit and the amateur knows how to swallow. Oh, yes we, blog friends had a lot of fun and later on that evening a lot to write about.
Ps 2. Portugal is more than Porto – go out and explore great wineries, their wine culture.
